As god once visited our area, the edge of the forest,
at the hillside,
he drank the wine made of our grapes and said:
I want to live here.
And as he blessed the country and the food, it became
certain:
this is the paradise.
Dear wine lovers
the nature here, of the Palatinate (Rheinland-Pfalz)
is abounding. This is the perfect
place to relax and you can enjoy simple bonuses coupled with brilliant
delights of the table. This is a from god loved country
with enjoyable climate with extravagant richness. The spring already begins here while in the north the area is
filled with ice. Lemons, figs and kiwi prosper in Palatinate. In summer
the heat alternates with plenty of rainfall.
Rhineland-Pfalz offers a nearly two thousand
years old wine culture. Already in the Roman age grape was treaded which was desired in the whole world. Today, quarter
of German wine are produced in Rhineland-Palatinate. In one great ocean of vines which reaches 80 kilometers
from Worms to the edge of Alsace and 10 kilometer to the Haardt hills into the Rhine level, an adept of wine can
find plenty of different sorts of wines where you can not find it somewhere else
The ground, mostly calcareous soil mixed with nourishingly
loam, which often includes primeval rests of carbonized plants, reaches many meters under the surface and
keeps humidity quite well. This is the land which creates some
stunning wine, "Grenades of grapes with which
you could fill the mouth of a horse" the people ra Palatinate would say. Here
you are looking at vines as far as your eyes reach. This
reflects the known spirit of Palatinate, a mixture from French ability
to enjoy and Bavarian heftiness. This is because
this region belonged to France for a long time and later to Bavaria.
Although Palatinate is known for the grapes of the
Riesling, the region also offers many other high quality wine to the
aficionado. Lasting and fresh wine descends from
the calcareous loam and clay soil of the area "Southern street
of wine": the aromatic Müller-Thurgau, the plenteous
Silvaner and the also aromatic Morio-Musquat. But the Riesling, Traminer and Ruländer are also very popular in this
area. Vigorous pinot blancs and Gewuerztraminer are waiting for friends of special hybrids. Not forgetting the pleasant
wines of Kerner and the aromatic Scheurebe. Velvet and placid wine made of the grape from Portugal and fruity and
plenty pinot noir top this plenty proposal off.
The best advertisement for Palatinate is "die
Deutsche Weinstraße" (the German street of wine)
www.deutscheweinstrasse.de
which meanders 85 kilometers
through the grapes from Schwelgen along the edgeof Alsace to the top of Bockenheim. It appeals on
a map like the letter "I". The most enjoyable time to live
there isAugust when there are set wine booths everywhere.
ALBERSWEILER is located 7 km to the west of Landau
and offers a ninety five (95) hectare of vineyard acreage. The lovely
wine village with about two thousand habitants is
located in the Queichtal between Haardt and Wasgau and offers an eventful history.
Albersweiler can be found in history in 1065 for
the first time. Roman founds prove the existence of a villa rustica
– a Roman farmyard of the middle Imperial Era and at
least since the time of the Carolingian (9. century) there was build
the first church.
The most important connecting streets around Albersweile
were made in the time of the Roman.
The winning of gneiss, granite and melaphyr plays
an important role even nowadays. Vauban (1688-91) built a channel in this area to transport stones via ships from Landau
to build the castle. The remains of the oldest, man-made channel of Germany still cross the place.
This village of the kingdom became quite early a
county. In year 1764 prince "Thomas von Löwenstein" replaced
theplace of resident of "Scharfeneckthierher"
and reconstructed it as rococo-style castle. Today it is used as center
of education for the company BASF.
The office of the vineyard Franz Hahn was also build
in this period and was a donation of Löwenstein to the congregation. The Hahn family purchased it later.
The emblem of the Löwenstein's is placed at the balcony
of the house with the inscription:
IN GRATITUDINIS SIGNUM / AS A SIMPLE TOKEN OF GRATITUDE
The village celebrated a Holy Mass for this token
in his name for two hundred years in the church of the village untilOctober 1979.
Our wine village which is founded more than 1200
years ago is surrounded by forest. Here you can find many footpaths
and fetching places for sights like on the rock "Ores".
Pure nature awaits you in the two nature reserves which offer homes for endangered lichens, mosses and different
types of grasshopper.
Our place offers you also a lot more, like:
– The archaeological park "Klosterkirche St. Johann"
– the rococo-style castle in St. Johann
– the channel of Albersweiler
– the catholic parish church St. Stephan
– the protestant church on the mountain
– the "Ringwall" construction on the rock
"Ores" and
– castle Neuscharfeneck above Dernbach.
Every third
weekend of July there the wine festival is happening where you can visit the vineyards, the winecellars
and -and pubs, including the midnight race – the biggest
funrace in Palatinate.
